As I promised here are the pictures from the Little Dragon Class. We had great parent involvement and even had a new family! Wow! What a fantastic morning.
Zane and His Dad are demonstrating a quick release move. This is to protect children from strangers and bullies who try to hold on to them and cause harm. The children are taught to pull against the thumbs as they step back to release the opponents grip.
THis picture shows Mr.May demonstrating the beginning of teaching children to fall backward. We begin from a seated position and eventually have them standing. They are to cross their arms, tuck their heads and roll backwards as they slap the mat and kia.
After rolling backward and slapping the map a defensive position is taught to keep off your opponent and push them away. This prevents the child from being tackled and allows them a chance to get up and run away to safety. The parents did a great job don't you think?!
Mr. May is so good about getting down to the level of the student to make them feel comfortable even the first day in class. I am so proud of his tenderness with students.
Once again, thank you to ALL parents who took part in these special classes this weekend. We are so proud of all of our students.
If You Can Conceive It, And You Believe It, You Can Achieve It!”

Parent Participation Classes
We were so excited to have parents involved in our Junior class on Friday night. It is hard for parents to get up and take class doing something new and different. We appreciate all of the parent interaction and it so much fun! Parents were rewarded with Honorary White Belt certificates and most of all with smiles on their children faces.
We were about to start target drills in this picture.
It is very important for parents to learn proper technique to better help their child practice at home. We use targets for this drill but pillows and cushions of any kind can be used.
The children are demonstrating cross punches on the hand targets.
Now the parents get a chance to join in and take a turn at punching the target. I know this shot is blurry but I loved how one young man and his dad seemed to be having so much fun! Thanks David & Venture!
We also went over self-defense quick release moves and falling backwards. Mr. May also had a short time of sharing with the parents concerning why we were having this class.
More parents joined in towards the end of class but the camera battery had died so unfortunately I have no more pictures of them.
Once again thanks to all parents and we hope to have a class like this once every 3 months to allow parents to experience class and learn along side their children.
Next Parent Participation class will most likely be in June.

Self-Defense
Juniors, Maegan and Sydney are demonstrating how to do a double wrist grab preparing to do a quick release self-defense move.
Juniors, Matthew and DeShawn, are demonstrating a single wrist grab preparing to do a quick release.
As part of our self defense training we teach all of our students how to fall forwards and backwards safely. In this class, the students are learning how to fall forward and protect their face.
We also prepare our students to roll safely and quickly to get back up to defend themselves. The students in the picture below are preparing to roll over on their leading shoulder as done in Aikido.
Self defense is an integral part of our curriculum at all levels and ages. Every self defense technique is taught at an age appropriate level. We teach our students to use the techniques of our program to defend themselves in a last resort situation.
