McGruff Safety Class

Safety Classes - June 30,2012

We were so happy to have the Troup County Sheriff's Department visit our school along with McGruff the Crime Dog. The children were very welcoming to our "Guest Instructor" McGruff. He came to remind the children of safety tips and stranger danger reminders.

We know children hear this at school and at home but we want to show families and our students that it is also importnat to us. Knowing Martial Arts is not a reason to not need and use safety tips. If we save even one child or family with this information every bit of effort is worth it.

Thank you so much to Ms. Leslie Purdy- Thorpe. She is the mother of one of our Little Dragons and has been VERY valuable to myself and Mr. May. She arranged this visit as well as previous visits by emergency personnel for safety courses. We are blessed to have all of our parents who support us on a daily basis.

Here are some pictures of our visit with McGruff.

Here are our Little Dragons with McGruff

With the Juniors, McGruff was not able to stay. But McGruff's keeper was able to stay and teach a lesson on Stranger danger and Safety as it realtes to internet safety. It is never too early to teach and remind our children how to stay safe in the vast world of the internet. There are so many ways to be caught in unsafe behavior on the computer. We truly care about our students total awareness not just their physical awareness.

Thank you once again to the Troup County Sheriff's Department.
Mr. May and I were thrilled to see so many of our students participate in this safety class.
We will repeat this class on a future date for those that were not able to attend.

Back to School Expo Pictures

Back to School Expo

We are so proud of all of our students. The Expo on Saturday was a great demonstration of our students and what we try to teach in our studio. It is so very important for us to be visible and accessible to those in our community that do not know us or Martial Arts. I would like to thank Michelle and Curt Nation for taking fantastic photos for me to share with everyone.

Our Juniors class began the morning.

The juniors are demonstrating falling a defensive position.

Our two Little Dragons that are transitioning into the juniors class are ready for self-defense.

Board breaking is ALWAYS popular portion of our demonstrations. The kids love it and so do those watching.

The Intermediate Junior class is demonstrating combinations of techniques with and without hand targets.

They even got to use the beginning level Kali sticks that are foam to reduce chance of injury. This is a way we incorporate Kali into our program.

This group of Juniors even got in on the board breaking. The red and black boards are the most difficult to break because of their thickness.

Our Little Dragon class was combined for this event. They demonstrated movement to avoid the blocker.

They also had a great time with the obstacle course. This is fun for them but it is teaching balance, crawling with cross movement, and jumping alternating feet and spacing on jumps. All of this is developmentally so important for children this age to be learning to be more agile and well-balanced.

We are so thankful to each and every family that brought their children to class at the mall. We are excited by the exposure our school received. We also anticipate future events where our students can "show off their stuff"!
